Mullah Nasruddin and the untrusted friend

Mullah Nasruddin & Donkey

Once upon a time, Mullah Nasruddin was visited by a friend of his who was, shall we say, unreliable.

Mullah, may I borrow your donkey to take my wheat to the mill?

Our good Mullah knew he might not see the donkey for several days. His friend had, after all, previously borrowed a book, a prayer rug and 50 dinar, and had never returned any of it.

I’m so sorry: just yesterday my brother came by to borrow the donkey and took him to Bahrain – I won’t get him back before Tuesday at least.

The friend started to walk away slowly, disappointed. Then the donkey brayed loudly from where he was tied up, out back.

Mullah! I thought you said the donkey was in Bahrain!

Who are you going to believe? Me or the donkey?

So hey. Don’t force the Mullah to tell you stories. At least not the ones where you’re a character. 🙂
